Spanning the Chasm
Between Music, Poetry, Ideas,
and the Visual Experience

Inner Flight
Heading Out: I was a musician and private poet when the mandala appeared from nowhere. I took it as a sign that I should abandon my academic pursuit of art history and somehow strike out as an artist, although just exactly how I was not sure. I considered musical composition but ended up pursuing architectural design. See Architecture and Furniture.

Tabula Rasa
Translation into visual patterns of a personal poem that had already been translated into music

Wood Sculpture I
Translation of William Blake's Sunflower first into rhythms and then into visual motifs. See Camarillo Project

Wood Sculpture II
The equivalent of Hammurabi's Code for the Camarillo Project

Blake's Space
Visual search for meaning in a poem. See Camarillo Project

Lemonade in the Library
Breaking the pattern of typical textiles

Listening to Strings by Phillip Glass

Haiku
Making the everyday poetic and like music in that it flows forward in time (reads right to left as in traditional Japanese text). Uses a French curve (a drafting tool) and rectangles of color

My Glass of Water
Making reading the visual image through layers of colored Mylar simulate the sensation of looking through ice cubes in a glass of water, as expressed in the poem

Listening to Oasis
Expressing a free floating musical style
