Ventura Project
|
In this project a kitchen was gutted and redesigned. My intent was to bring in as much of the outdoors as possible and to do something that was personally appealing. A lot of glass opened up the space, and a grey-veined white marble tile countertop provided a reflective surface for the sky. As the house was nondescript, a style to express something had to be pulled out of a bag. At this point I had never taken a design class, yet I somehow felt that traditional paneling on cabinetry was oppressive, like having to squeeze your toes into pointed shoes, but hi-tech didn’t seem like the answer either. I discovered a modernized version of a traditional style in a Poggenpohl catalog and the rest was voilà (and months of hard work). |
